In the Shadow of the Sun
Derek Jarman, 1981, 54 min

"In the Shadow of the Sun is a fire film, an English Apocalypse, starting with a journey to the stone circle at Avebury, near Stonehenge..."

"Based on a piece of film of a car trip to Avebury. Images of ritual happenings and objects of mystical significance are superimposed onto this to produce an abstract surface of colour, texture and mystery. This was part of a series of films called "The Art of Mirrors" which were made in London on silent Super-8mm in 1970-74. The film was blown up to 16mm and a soundtrack by the group Throbbing Gristle was added." – BFI
