Storming Heaven is a new bimonthly programme at Close-Up loosely assembled around filmmaking as a practice of solidarity and radical community building. The first screening looks at Basque filmmakers in the aftermath of political action. In Above 592 metres, Maddi Barber captures a now displaced community in the Spanish Pyrenees observing the ecosystem it fought and failed to protect while trying to renegotiate a rapport with the natural world. 918 Nights (Winner Doc Lisboa 2021) narrates and stages director Arantza Santesteban’s memories of prison and search for political belonging after spending 918 days behind bars.
