This rare presentation of two films by William E. Jones is brought to Close-Up by purge.xxx, launching the seven-inch vinyl of Jean-Pierre Bedoyan’s soundtrack for Jones’ film The Fall of Communism as Seen as Gay Pornography, alongside Finished, Jones' profile of the porn star Alan Lambert.
In the liner notes for the record, Jones writes: “After Jean-Pierre composed an appropriately moody drone soundtrack for my film Finished, he was the logical choice to compose for The Fall of Communism as Seen in Gay Pornography, a much less austere work that allowed him to give full expression to what some of my friends have called a sense of ‘Balkanity.’ I was very pleased with his music, especially the section that accompanies the pervy old sex tourist putting his finger in a young Russian man’s mouth – a scene I called the ‘Nazi dental exam’ at the time. Jean-Pierre somewhat disparagingly referred to this passage as ‘the pop single.’ Little did he know that it would one day be released on 7-inch vinyl!”
Copies of all seven inches will be available on the night. Special thanks to the artist and David Kordansky Gallery
