There Was a Tower: A Portrait of Mihály Víg

Close-Up presents the UK premiere of Kécza's intimate portrait of the enigmatic Mihály Víg, best known internationally as the composer of Béla Tarr's film scores.

Made with the support of Tarr, and with executive production by Tilda Swinton, There Was a Tower is based on six extensive interviews held by director András Kécza with Víg. The film documents the composer’s life and times, describing the depth and scope of Víg’s lifelong collaboration with Tarr, along with unseen concert footage of Hungary’s seminal underground bands Balaton and trabant.

We are delighted to confirm the attendance of Mihály Víg at this screening, who will later in the same evening programme Stanley Schtinter’s Liberated Film Club. These screenings are brought to Close-Up by purge.xxx, hosts of Mihály Víg and Balaton in London, for their headline performance at Cafe Oto on February 25.
