Synopsis
The most poignant of
Gabin’s late films. This
Simenon adaptation stages a stand-off between ageing husband and wife, a couple between whom all love has seemingly been replaced by hatred, to the point that they communicate only through written notes and, tragically, a cat. The bitterness of the story is offset by tour-de-force performances by
Gabin and the great
Simone Signoret, at last united in a perfect match.
