Synopsis
Duvivier’s colonialist film put in place the main elements of the
Gabin "myth" and made him an overnight sensation. He plays Gillieth, a Parisian worker who commits an unpremeditated murder. He escapes by joining the Foreign Legion in Spanish Morocco where he meets the "native" Aischa (Annabella) and is pursued by the louche Fernando (Le Vigan). Virile loyalty and courage in combat lend him, eventually, heroic status.
